Greg Gisvold is Director, Governance and Rule of Law, for Democracy International. In this position, he leads project design and implementation efforts and provides technical oversight to DI's existing portfolio of governance and rule of law programs. Mr. Gisvold is a senior rule of law and security sector reform expert with two decades of experience in complex governance challenges in unstable and developing regions for USAID and other funders. Mr. Gisvold has an extensive track record providing technical assistance to and managing programs funded by the US Agency for International Development (USAID), the Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL), and the UK Department for International Development (DFID). His work focuses on judicial and legal institutional reform, government service delivery, accountability mechanisms, and public engagement on policy. He has served as Chief of Party, Team Leader, and Country Director in a number of countries and worked closely with USAID and the Department of State to develop new technical leadership tools. Earlier in his career, he was a Human Rights Officer for Minnesota Advocates for Human Rights and for the Office of the High Representative in Bosnia & Herzegovina. While in legal practice, Mr. Gisvold served as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Minnesota. Mr. Gisvold has published a number of articles and edited two books on post-conflict human rights, legal reform, and reconstructing justice institutions.
