Asoka Obeyesekere (Executive Director, Transparency International Sri Lanka) is a barrister and political scientist.

Since joining TISL in October 2015, Asoka has successfully led TISL in advocating for and supporting the passage of the Sri Lankan RTI Act, most notably as an intervenient petitioner in the Sri Lankan Supreme Court. Asoka is a leading champion of reforms to the Sri Lankan asset declaration system and has positioned TISL as a convenor of Civil Society input in the Open Government Partnership process.

Prior to joining TISL, Asoka was a Governance Consultant at Verité Research, where he founded and led the Manthri.lk team that runs Sri Lanka’s only parliamentary performance monitoring platform.

His work has covered diverse areas such as ground breaking electoral reform research, championing revised MP asset disclosure standards and securing reformed parliamentary committee reporting practices. Asoka has previously worked as a research consultant at TISL and has also worked at a number of Westminster-based political think-tanks. He has private sector experience from his time as a graduate trainee at Ernst & Young, London.

Asoka holds a L.L.B. from Queen Mary College and a M.Sc. in Comparative Politics from the London School of Economics & Political Science. He was called to the Bar at the Inner Temple.
