Valerie Traore is the Founder and Executive Director of Niyel. She has fifteen years of professional experience in campaigning and advocacy on a wide range of issues including human rights and rights based programming, development, human security and conflict, politics and international relations.

Prior to founding Niyel, Valerie was International Campaigner at ActionAid International, PanAfrican Program Manager at ACORD and Regional Communication Officer at Oxfam America.

Valerie studied communication and international relation at the University of Indianapolis as well as diplomacy and political strategies at the Centre d’Etudes Diplomatiques et Strategiques de Paris. She is fluent in English, French, Portuguese and Dioula. Valerie is from Burkina Faso and has worked in over 35 countries on four continents.

Valerie sits on the steering committees of the Oxfam’s West Africa Regional Seminal Report on Inequalities and the East Africa HPRO Innovating for Maternal and Child Health in Africa (IMCHA) initiative. She also serves on the board directors of Christian Aid.
