Brian Dawson is the Chief Digital Officer at the Canada Science and Technology Museums Corporation, a family of three national museums that also includes the Canada Aviation and Space Museum and the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum. Brian drives the development and implementation of strategy for digital platforms, content, distribution and engagement throughout the organization. He leads a team of information technology, digital media and digital interactive specialists who deliver on a broad range of digital initiatives.

Brian is engaged in several industry and applied research partnerships at CSTMC, including the application of game engines and virtual reality to cultural; applied research of augmented reality in a museum setting; 3D technologies in a cultural heritage context; Open Data; Open Information; analytics systems for interactive technologies; and machine learning applied to cultural heritage. He is also forging relationships between Canada’s national technology museums and technology startup incubators, to engage in the establishment of national digital cultural infrastructure.

Brian is active in the global museum digital communities (Museums and the Web, Museum Computer Network). Prior to joining the museum, Brian worked at Nortel Networks in telephony software development and process improvement. Brian holds a Bachelor of Computer Science from Dalhousie University (Technical University of Nova Scotia) and a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Cape Breton.
